Dishes~

One of my favorite things to collect is dishes! They are a great addition to the designer's bag of tricks! Dishes can add dimension to just about any style. They don't have to be relegated to the kitchen or dining room either. You can use them in the living room, in the bedroom or in the bathroom (yes! I really did say the bathroom). They add warmth to table displays. They can be used as "catch alls" on a dresser. They are, simply put, amazing!

And the best way to find inexpensive dishes is to thrift them! Tag sales, thrift stores, or discount stores like TJMaxx and Marshalls are some of my favorites.
My suggestion for being successful at collecting dishes this way is to pick a color scheme. My personal scheme is white or cream. These are easy to use in table settings and can have more colorful pieces added to them to create a variety of tablesettings or displays. Other popular color schemes include red & white, blue & white, or brown & white. Don't fall into the trap of feeling like the patterns you purchase have to match. If you stick with a color scheme, all your pieces will work harmoniously together and will give you many options!

Do you like to collect dishes?

I love when people collect dishes. I think it is so beautiful. Someday when we have our own place and a little more space I would love to collect white or blue and white dishes. I love the examples you posted. They are perfect!

I love dishes too..especially serving dishes. When I travel I always look for some little dish to bring home to add to my collection...easy to pack and always brings back memories.

I have three sets of table dishes and loads of serving dishes of all shapes and sizes. I actually just remembered that I have another vintage set of dishes in the attic...just so space for them just yet.

Yes, Unfortunately I collect dishes. It is so hard to resist the TJMaxx dish aisles! My daughter picked out two new serving pieces for me, for Mother's Day.

I love dishes, too! My favorites are white and cream as well. They are just so versatile. But, this weekend I picked up a 36 piece set of Christmas dishes (poinsettia) at Goodwill. They are gorgeous. I got them 50% off for $9.50 for the lot of them. Pretty darn good deal!

I do love to collect dishes. Unfortunaltely I can't stick to any one style of dish for too long and am always starting new collections. I've gone from red transferware, to enamelware, to all white. I really need to stop this!

Ummm, yeah, dishes are a bit of an obsession for me. I have 5 or 6 complete sets and a bajillion in my thrifty cream/white collection of plates and platters and ironstone. LOVE them! They make me smile.

Great post. I always like to see what people collect. I go through phases in what I collect. I have a collection of English china, teapots and chocolate pots. Right now I am collecting vintage picnic baskets. The thrill is certainly in the hunt. Have a great week.

White dishes are the best! I love them. I've gotten some great ones at HomeGoods. I also love white pottery - vases, pitchers, etc.

I especially love blue and white and/or transferware. But check out my post here and tell me what you think of these:

Yes, I love dishes!! I usually host the family gatherings and I love white as you can add so much color. I have a weakness for serving dishes and accessories for my tablescapes. Love the examples you showed.

What a lovely idea! I don't collect dishes - plates, bowls, etc. - we do have quite the collection of great coffee/tea mugs from various thrift adventures & from a couple tea sets. A friend of mine actually found an amazing set of salad/dessert plates/mugs/pedestal platter at a thrift store for me a couple christmases ago. I never thought to use them in decor but really, they'd be great!

Thanks for such wonderful ideas to beautify the home!! :)

I don't have room for a lot of dishes, but I do collect the odd, quirky ones to use for parties, etc. Also, I love to collect odd pretty glasses; my Mom always said things tasted better in a pretty glass; and I like to have a selection to choose from.

I don't have ANY storage space, but I am so glad I chose a basic white Pfaltzgraff design (with the filigree) for my everyday dishes. That white can easily be mixed and matched. If I had a big huge china cabinet or built-ins, I'd be in trouble!! :)

I LOVE white dishes, they are so beautiful and clean, and they go with everything! In fact, I just bought a pretty white bowl to put on our kitchen table filled with fruit today at Marshall's!

Wendy - I am a dish....{whore} Can i say that? I think I just did. As vulgar as it is - I think it accurately describes the intense attraction I have to dishes.

My husband has even supported me on this - and has on special occasion, purchased sets of dishes for us to display. He's such a keeper.

I'm ALL about dishes. I love that you're right there with me! (totally goes hand-in-hand with the OCDecorating disease we have!)

I would love to collect more dishes but the room? Where do you find the room for it all? I'm trying to rearrange our kitchen to be able to store it all but I gotta cook too!

I love dishes too! I am always drawn to them at antique and flea malls, TJ Maxx and such! I also do white and cream and pick up bird, or florals to go with them. I love open shelves and can't wait until we are finished with our house so I'll have room for all of them! The pictures you posted are beautiful. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks it is perfectly fine to put dishes in the bathroom. lol.
